If you are seeking wonderful gardens, wide open spaces and glorious countryside views then one place on your “must visit” list has to be Killerton house and its estate at Broadclyst near Exeter, Devon.
The beautifully placed Georgian house at Killerton was the family home of Sir Richard Acland who gave his Killerton Estate to the National Trust in 1944.
There are some 6,400 acres of parkland, woods, farmland and orchards to see as well as an extinct volcano, an Iron Age Hill Fort, an ice house and a chapel to explore.
The views towards distant Dartmoor are spectacular and the many lawns, trees and woody plants are perfect for energetic children and adults to play amongst. Visitors are welcome to walk, run or cycle throughout the estate.
Killerton house itself is very welcoming and friendly with guests allowed to play the piano and read library books.
Whether inside the house or outside in the surrounding parkland, Killerton provides a most refreshing experience for all ages.
